Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has unveiled plans to temporarily reduce immigration numbers to alleviate pressure on the housing market and ensure a more sustainable economic growth.
From 2025 to 2027, the country will welcome fewer permanent residents, dropping from 500,000 to:
– 395,000 in 2025
– 380,000 in 2026
– 365,000 in 2027
Temporary residents will also decrease to 5% of Canada’s population by 2026, resulting in:
– 445,901 fewer temporary residents in 2025
– 445,662 fewer in 2026
This move aims to address the housing supply gap, expected to decrease by approximately 670,000 units by 2027.
