In a significant development, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has agreed to resume issuing visas to Nigerian passport holders, effective immediately. This decision comes after a bilateral agreement was reached between the UAE and Nigerian governments.
According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, “You are aware that Nigeria has been discussing with the United Arab Emirates on the issue of visas for Nigerian passport holders going to the United Arab Emirates. Today, an agreement has been reached on that, and effective from today 15th July, Nigerian passport holders are able to obtain visa to go to the United Arab Emirates.”
The minister confirmed that details of the agreement would be released in a statement later, but assured that “Nigerian passport holders intending to travel to the UAE are able to do so.”
This move marks a significant breakthrough in the relations between the two countries, as the UAE had previously suspended visa issuance to Nigerians over two years ago. The resumption of visa services is expected to facilitate travel and strengthen ties between the UAE and Nigeria.
