Senator Ali Ndume has appealed to the Nigerian Senate to allow Uchenna Ubah, the widow of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, to replace him as the representative for Anambra South Senatorial District.
Ndume made this call during a valedictory session for Ubah, who passed away in July 2024. He highlighted historical precedents where widows and relatives of deceased politicians continued their legacies in public office. For example, Margery Okadigbo replaced her late husband, Chuba Okadigbo, in the Senate, and Oluremi Tinubu followed the political path of her husband, former Lagos State governor and current president, Bola Tinubu.
Ndume emphasized that allowing Ubah’s widow to take his place would honor his contributions and ensure continuity for the people of Anambra South. He pointed out that Ubah’s wife, at around 50 years old, has been a strong support to him and could effectively carry on his work.
