Abuja Building Collapse: Residents Trapped, Rescue Efforts Ongoing

A devastating incident occurred in the Kubwa area of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, on Saturday morning, leaving residents trapped and feared dead. A two-story residential building collapsed, burying occupants under the rubble.

Emergency responders and security operatives swiftly arrived at the scene to commence rescue operations. So far, four people have been rescued, but unfortunately, one person remains trapped in the debris. Medical personnel are also on the ground, providing aid to those injured.

The collapsed building, previously used as a hotel and later a hospital, was recently converted into a residential apartment. The cause of the collapse is currently unknown, sparking concerns about the structural integrity of the building and potential negligence.

This incident comes on the heels of another building collapse in Jos, Plateau State, on Friday, July 12, resulting in 22 deaths and 132 injuries. These consecutive tragedies raise urgent questions about building safety and regulation enforcement in Nigeria.
