The Lagos Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction and sentencing of six fraudsters by Justice A.A. Okeke of the Federal High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The convicts, identified as Aladeusi Korede Seun, Akande Habeeb Kunle, Aliu Faleti Opeyemi, Oseni Suleimon, Tobiloba Ebhodaghe Wadiale, and Shedrack Obioma, were arraigned on Friday, July 19, 2024. The charges against them included money laundering, contrary to Section 18(2) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and impersonation, contrary to Section 22(2)(iv) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition and Prevention) Act, 2022. This information was detailed in a statement released on the EFCC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
All six defendants pleaded guilty to the charges.
Upon their guilty pleas, prosecution counsel R.A. Abdulrasheed requested the court to convict them accordingly.
Justice Okeke delivered the following sentences:
– Aladeusi Korede Seun: Two months imprisonment on each count, to be served consecutively. Additionally, his iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 11, and smart wristwatch were ordered forfeited to the Federal Government.
– Akande Habeeb Kunle: One month imprisonment on each count, to be served consecutively. His iPhone 13 was also ordered forfeited to the Federal Government.
– Aliu Faleti Opeyemi: Two months imprisonment on each count, to be served consecutively. His iPhone 14 Pro Max was ordered forfeited to the Federal Government.
– Oseni Suleimon: Three months imprisonment on count one (money laundering) and three months on count two (impersonation), to be served consecutively. His Galaxy S20 Ultra and HP Laptop were ordered forfeited to the Federal Government.
– Tobiloba Ebhodaghe Wadiale: Two months imprisonment on each count, to be served consecutively. His Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro Max were ordered forfeited to the Federal Government.
– Shedrack Obioma: One month imprisonment on each count, to be served consecutively.
These convictions underscore the EFCC’s ongoing commitment to combating financial crimes and upholding justice.
