On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, buzzed with excitement as the Olubadan’s new ultramodern palace was officially commissioned. This stunning edifice, situated in the Yemetu area, marks a significant milestone in Ibadan’s history, standing as the most ornate and grand palace the city has ever seen, heralding a new era for the metropolis.
The President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, Barrister Sulaiman Ajeniya Ajewole, acknowledged the significant support of Governor Seyi Makinde in realizing this monumental project. He offered prayers for the Olubadan and the entire state, emphasizing the palace’s role in promoting unity and cultural heritage.
The Olubadan Palace was officially commissioned by Oyo State Governor, Engineer Abiodun Seyi Makinde. In his vote of thanks, Governor Makinde expressed gratitude to the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who laid the foundation for the palace. He also appreciated the contributions of the former President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief O. O. Bello, Chief Bayo Oyero, and all Ibadan indigenes who played a role in bringing the project to fruition.
Governor Makinde announced the establishment of a maintenance process for the new palace, involving monthly contributions from all 11 local government councils in Ibadan. He also revealed plans for the second phase of the project, which includes renovating Bower’s Tower to boost tourism in the state. The governor looked forward to the upcoming coronation of the Olubadan this Friday.
