President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the cancellation of all his official engagements in Lagos to honor the victims of the recent stampedes in Abuja and Anambra State.
This was disclosed today in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The twin tragedies claimed numerous lives and left many others injured, sending waves of grief across the nation.
In the statement, President Tinubu expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims. He also directed that immediate support be provided to the injured and families of the deceased through relevant federal agencies.
By canceling his Lagos engagements, the President aims to demonstrate solidarity with the affected communities and reflect the nation’s collective sorrow. He urged Nigerians to remain united in these challenging times and committed to measures that would prevent such tragedies in the future.
The government has called for a thorough investigation into the incidents to identify the causes and ensure accountability. Emergency response agencies have also been directed to assess the needs of the survivors and their families to provide adequate relief.
