22 Suspected Internet Fraudsters Arrested in a sting Operation

Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 22 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud. The arrests were made during a sting operation carried out on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Umuagu and Olokoro communities in Abia State.

 

The operation, which was based on credible intelligence, led to the recovery of various items allegedly used in fraudulent activities. These include six luxury vehicles, eight laptops, and 36 mobile phones.

 

The EFCC has confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing interrogation. Upon the conclusion of investigations, they will be charged to court to face appropriate legal action.

 

The Commission reiterated its commitment to tackling cybercrime, urging citizens to provide timely information to aid in the fight against internet fraud and other economic crimes.
