Kano Agency Seals Warehouse, Uncovers Diverted Rice Palliative.Kano State’s Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Agency has sealed a warehouse containing 16,600 bags of rice worth over N1 billion, meant for federal government palliatives. The rice, suspected to have been released during last year’s Ramadan Kareem, was being repackaged for sale .
The warehouse, located on Ring Road in Nasarawa Local Government Area, was sealed during an operation led by the agency’s Executive Chairman, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado. Rimin-Gado stated that 28 trucks of rice were found, allegedly diverted by individuals who were re-bagging the commodity into different brands for sale in various markets.
The chairman emphasized that the diversion of the commodity is an illegal and corrupt act that will not be tolerated. “This is a clear form of corruption, as this property is meant for the public. Considering the current hardship, it’s appalling that someone would re-bag and sell these palliatives,” Rimin-Gado said.
One person has been arrested in connection with the matter, and an investigation is underway to uncover those behind the scam. The agency aims to forestall such activities and ensure that palliatives reach those who need them most.
