More than 10 students sustained injuries in a violent clash on Monday morning in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, during a suspected cult-related supremacy battle between students of two secondary schools in the Adeta area.

It was gathered that the altercation, which occurred around 11 a.m., involved students from Government High School and Government Day Secondary School in Adeta, Ilorin.

The incident is believed to be a reprisal attack started from a disagreement that occurred about two weeks ago.

The confrontation escalated into a full-blown brawl, leaving several students with injuries ranging from bruises to more severe wounds.

Meanwhile, in a statement released on Wednesday, by the Kwara State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, through the Press Secretary in the state Ministry of Education, Peter Amogbonjaye, the government expressed unhappiness with the situation.

Modibbo Kawu explained that the Kwara State Government is dissatisfied with the recent unruly attitude exhibited by some students of Government Day Secondary School, Adeta and Government High School, Adeta, in Ilorin Metropolis.

She said the principals reported that there was an age-long crisis between the schools, dating back to almost a decade, which they have been managing.

Modibbo Kawu also expressed displeasure with the students’ attitudes and the authorities of the schools for not immediately notifying the ministry.

She, however, assured them of government’s intervention and urged the students to have a change of attitude and focus on their studies to have a good future.

Modibbo Kawu urged the students of both schools to reciprocate the government’s gesture by avoiding any behaviour that may dent the image of the state and urged them to be the pride of their families and the state at large.

When newsmen contacted Kwara State Police Command spokeswoman, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, she did not answer her calls or reply to the message sent to her mobile phone.
