Nigerian Army Major General, Soldiers Allegedly Assault Couple for Overtaking Their Vehicle
A video circulating online has sparked outrage, showing a Nigerian Army Major General and other soldiers allegedly assaulting a couple in public. The incident reportedly occurred after the couple overtook the soldiers’ vehicle, prompting a brutal response.
In the footage, the soldiers are seen violently attacking the male victim, repeatedly hitting and kicking him while he remains defenceless. The female partner, who attempted to record the encounter, was also reportedly assaulted.
Details about the location and timing of the incident remain unclear, but the video shows the couple pleading for help as they endure the violent assault. The video has led to widespread condemnation, with many citing human rights violations and calling for accountability within the military.
This incident echoes a similar case reported in July, where soldiers were filmed publicly torturing a civilian for allegedly wearing camouflage clothing. These recurring events raise serious concerns about military conduct, civilian treatment, and the enforcement of accountability in the Nigerian Army.
The video, obtained by SaharaReporters, also shows a soldier in full military gear, bearing a military police badge, alongside another individual in plain clothes, dragging and beating the victim with a belt and a wooden log.
Calls for reform and stricter oversight of military personnel have intensified as citizens demand justice and an end to such abuses of power.
