Operatives of the Benin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 24 individuals suspected of engaging in internet-related fraud activities. The arrests took place on Monday, September 30, 2024, at various locations within Benin City, following credible intelligence reports regarding their alleged involvement in cybercrime.
The EFCC disclosed this development through an official statement shared on its verified X (formerly Twitter) account. According to the statement, the suspects were apprehended based on actionable intelligence gathered by the agency.
During the operation, several items were confiscated, including 11 luxury vehicles, multiple laptops, and mobile phones. Additionally, a cash sum of N160,000.00 (One Hundred and Sixty Thousand Naira) was recovered from one of the suspects.
The arrested individuals are currently cooperating with investigators and have provided valuable information. Upon the completion of ongoing investigations, the suspects will be formally charged to court.
