“The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued an urgent demand for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to immediately reverse the recent petrol price increase, which was announced on Tuesday. In a statement released by NLC President Joe Ajaero in Abuja, the Congress emphasized the need for a swift reversal to mitigate the harsh economic impact on Nigerian citizens.

This development comes after a prolonged negotiation over the national minimum wage, which was finally set at ₦70,000. However, the recent fuel price hike has reignited tensions between the organized labour movement and the government. The NLC has vehemently opposed the increase, calling on the government to reconsider the decision.

The situation has sparked mixed reactions from residents, with some criticizing the NLC for its role in negotiating the minimum wage increase, which they believe contributed to the fuel price hike. Others have praised the NLC for speaking out against the price increase, arguing that it would exacerbate economic hardship.

As the standoff between labour and government continues to escalate, Nigerians eagerly await the outcome of the NLC’s demand. The situation has raised concerns about the government’s ability to balance economic pressures with the welfare of its citizens.”
