The Oyo state chapter of the New Nigerian People’s Party has warned all members of Kwankwasiya movement in the state to be wary of their group activities in order not to disrupt the unity of the political party.
Oyo NNPP made the warning in a press statement issued by the state Publicity Secretary, Ademola Oke and available to journalists on Wednesday in Ibadan.
The party, while reacting to the recent activities of the Kwankwasiya movement in Oyo state said, there is a need to understand that, Kwankwasiya is social group while NNPP as a political party, urged all Kwankwasiya members using NNPP to drive their movement in Oyo state to find another way to spread their movement without making use of a political party.
In the statement, Oyo NNPP discredited the Kwankwasiya movement in Oyo with their action of using the NNPP name and logo in conjunction with the Kwankwasiya name to draw new members into the group, said the group is inconsequential, and not recognized outside Sabo, Hausa community area, in Ibadan, Oyo state.
” Our party, NNPP in Oyo state, irrevocably condemns the use of our party name and logo to spread and promote the Kwankwasiya movement in Oyo state.
” At first, the state party of NNPP had decided to overlook incessant errors being committed by the Kwankwasiya members in Oyo state but found it necessary at this time to caution and educate all the members of the group using NNPP name and logo to drive their movement, especially in Oyo state.
” It is high time for the Kwankwasiya group to understand that Kwankwasiya is a group while NNPP is a party and registered in Nigeria, so making use of a political party to promote and lure people into social group like Kwankwasiya is nothing but impersonation, and it is rejected in Oyo state.
” Oyo NNPP, therefore rejects using the name and logo of our party in conjunction with the Kwankwasiya movement and also warned all individuals and groups concerned to desist from the act,” Oyo NNPP stated.
