A 17-year-old chef, Philip Emmanuel, has been arrested and paraded by the Ondo State Police Command in connection with the brutal murder of his employer, Mrs. Adene Iyabode Deborah, a well-known caterer. Emmanuel confessed to conspiring with his employer’s driver, identified as Precious, to commit the heinous crime over a sum of N150,000.
Speaking at the Ondo Police Headquarters, the teenage suspect narrated how he and Precious plotted to kill Mrs. Adene inside her apartment. The motive, according to Emmanuel, was to gain access to the N150,000 recently credited to the deceased’s account.
“I am here because I killed my madam,” Emmanuel began. “I had been working with her for about five months as her cook. She recently employed a new driver, Precious, who had only been working with her for two weeks. One day, the driver came to me and mentioned that N150,000 had just been deposited into madam’s account. He suggested we kill her and take the money. I told him I had never killed anyone before.”
Emmanuel continued his chilling confession, detailing the events that led to the murder: “On a Saturday, my madam asked me to help her wash clothes because she was very tired. The driver, Precious, came around unexpectedly. Madam was surprised to see him, but he told her he came to help. That day, he gave me a drink, and after I drank it, he threatened me with a cutlass, saying he would kill me too if I didn’t help him.”
According to Emmanuel, they both entered the house, and the driver pushed him inside, forcing him to participate. “I hit madam with a cutlass as the driver instructed, but I started crying immediately after. After we killed her, Precious checked her account and found only N60,000 instead of the expected N150,000. He gave me N30,000, and I fled to Idanre.”
Emmanuel stated that after four days, news of Mrs. Adene’s death spread. The police subsequently invited him and Precious for questioning about the last time they saw the woman. Emmanuel claimed he initially told the police his version of events and was released. However, the investigation took a turn when the police discovered he had been in communication with the driver. At this point, Emmanuel confessed to his involvement in the murder.
The police have yet to provide further details about the driver, Precious, and whether he has been apprehended. The case has sparked outrage and concern, with many calling for justice for the slain caterer, Mrs. Adene Iyabode Deborah.
Further investigation is ongoing, and the Ondo State Police Command has assured the public that all parties involved will be held accountable.
