Two teenagers, Malik Abdulganiyu and Hawal Akande, were found dead in a river at Edudu Baale, Idi-Oke community, Igbesa, in the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to reports, the victims, who had been missing since August 28, 2024, were discovered floating in a nearby river on Friday. The tragic incident has left the community in shock.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident early on Saturday. She revealed that the two boys, 15-year-old Abdulganiyu and 13-year-old Akande, had left their homes on Olaigbe Street, Egudu Baale, on Wednesday morning to work at the Salvation Army located in the same community.
Odutola stated, “On August 8, 2024, at about 1:30 a.m., the mothers of Abdulganiyu and Akande reported that their children, aged 15 and 13 respectively, had not returned home from work the previous day.” The teenagers’ bodies were later discovered floating in a river near their residence. Police detectives who visited the scene conducted a thorough examination of the bodies but found no signs of foul play or attack.
Following the discovery, the bereaved families requested the immediate release of the corpses to allow them to carry out burial rites in accordance with Islamic traditions.
