Dr. Ibraheem Oladeji Salami, widely known as “Dikko,” the Sole Administrator and Chairman of the Oyo State Pacesetter Transport Services (PTS), recently highlighted the remarkable progress and future plans of the transport service under his leadership. During an interview on Fresh FM Radio 109.5 with Mayor Isaac Brown, Dr. Salami discussed his achievements over the past year and outlined his vision for transforming public transportation in Oyo State.
Reflecting on his tenure, Dr. Salami noted that when he assumed office, PTS had only five operational buses. Today, the fleet has expanded to 81 buses, allowing the transport service to extend routes from just two within Ibadan to 28 across several towns, including Oyo, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa, and Iseyin. He credited this rapid expansion to careful planning, dedication, and a focus on meeting the needs of residents. Furthermore, PTS has introduced an effective card payment system with over 250,000 subscribers, streamlining fare collection and making services more accessible. To support vulnerable groups, the service also offers free rides to people with disabilities and students who present valid identification.
Dr. Salami emphasized the internal restructuring of PTS, which has transitioned from an unstructured management system to a more organized one with clearly defined roles. This transformation has improved operational efficiency and empowered staff. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance maintenance and repair services to ensure that buses are in optimal condition. Looking ahead, Dr. Salami plans to acquire mini-buses to serve roads in rural areas, introduce insurance schemes for intercity travel, and launch new revenue-generating initiatives, such as renting buses for private events, expanding interstate routes, and constructing a mini-terminal featuring a hotel and cinema.
Dr. Salami further unveiled plans to introduce PTS taxi services with an initial fleet of 50 taxis, accompanied by a ride-hailing app to offer residents more convenient transportation options. Commended by Mayor Isaac Brown for his innovation and leadership, Dr. Salami expressed gratitude to the Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his trust and commitment to service. He assured residents that PTS would continue to evolve and expand to meet their transportation needs, positioning Oyo State as a leader in public transport development.
As PTS continues to grow under the leadership of Dr. Salami and Governor Makinde, Oyo State stands poised to set the standard for modern and efficient public transportation in Nigeria.
