Acting Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal, has affirmed the state’s commitment to supporting and collaborating with anti-corruption agencies in their mission to uphold transparency and integrity. This declaration of intent was made during a courtesy visit by the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, who was in the state to convey his condolences on the passing of the former ICPC Chairman, Justice Emmanuel Ayoola.
While addressing the delegation at the Oyo State Secretariat, Barrister Lawal praised the late Justice Ayoola as a distinguished son of Oyo State whose contributions to national development and the fight against corruption were unparalleled. He lauded Justice Ayoola’s dedication and hard work, which left an indelible mark on the ICPC and the country at large.
In his remarks, Barrister Lawal congratulated Dr. Musa Aliyu on his recent appointment as the Chairman of the ICPC, expressing his confidence in Aliyu’s ability to continue the legacy of integrity and diligence championed by his predecessor. He emphasized that under Dr. Aliyu’s leadership, the state is ready to collaborate closely with the ICPC to intensify efforts against corrupt practices, ensuring that the principles of justice and accountability are upheld.
Dr. Musa Aliyu, in his response, expressed profound respect for the late Justice Ayoola, acknowledging him as one of the most eminent legal minds Nigeria has ever produced. He assured the Acting Governor and the people of Oyo State that the ICPC would strive to preserve and build upon Justice Ayoola’s legacy, maintaining the commission’s reputation as a bastion of anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria.
As part of the visit, a formal letter of condolence was presented to the Oyo State Government. The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including the Oyo State Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Biodun Aikomo, and the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (Retd).
