The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has called for greater transparency in revenue allocation among the federal, state, and local governments. During their monthly meeting in Jalingo, Taraba State, the governors expressed concern over the Federal Government’s failure to distinguish between federal revenue and the revenue that belongs to the federation, urging strict adherence to Section 162 of the Constitution.
The forum also criticized the Accountant General of the Federation for perceived bias towards the Federal Government and called for the separation of the offices of the Accountant General of the Federation and the Accountant General of the Federal Government to ensure independent management of the federation’s revenue.
Additionally, the governors expressed relief over the end of the #EndBadGovernance protests, commended their own for handling the situation maturely, and urged the Federal Government to ensure fair trials for those arrested during the demonstrations. They criticized the Federal Government’s response to the protests, accusing it of blackmail rather than addressing underlying issues, and called on President Bola Tinubu to prevent his officials from unfairly targeting state governments.
The forum also addressed political matters, reaffirming support for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubura amid a political impasse and urging the PDP National Working Committee to restore his leadership position. They also called on President Tinubu to remain neutral in the upcoming Edo State governorship election and condemned the alleged intimidation of PDP supporters by the police ahead of the September 21 poll.
