The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a significant recapitalization grant aimed at empowering 37,000 women petty traders across the country. The initiative, which is part of her Renewed Hope Initiative’s Economic Empowerment Programme, will distribute N50,000 each to 1,000 women in each of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), amounting to a total of N1.85 billion.

The flag-off ceremony, held in Abuja, was simultaneously conducted across the country. Senator Tinubu, represented by the FCT Mandate Secretary for Women Affairs, Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), recognizing the challenges they face.

She emphasized that the grants are intended to help the women overcome these challenges, create jobs, and grow their businesses, ultimately contributing to economic stability and growth within their communities. The initiative reflects the administration’s focus on economic empowerment as a means of addressing poverty and promoting sustainable development.
