The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) announced today the conviction of a local government worker for the illegal sale of land belonging to the State Housing Corporation. The convicted individual, Adesina Olanrewaju Oyegoke, an Assistant Chief Executive Officer who worked in the Estate Department of Lagelu Local Government in Ibadan, was sentenced to three months imprisonment.

Magistrate O.A. Akande, presiding over Special Court 8 in Iyaganku, delivered the judgment on Wednesday, finding Oyegoke guilty on three counts of official corruption under the OYACA Law 2019. The court’s decision marks a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to curb corruption within its public service.

The conviction was officially announced in a press release signed by Barrister I.O. Tijani, the Executive Secretary of OYACA, on behalf of the agency’s Chairman, Honorable Justice Eni Esan (rtd.). The release emphasized the agency’s commitment to transparency and accountability, urging all civil servants to refrain from corrupt practices.

OYACA’s statement underscored the importance of integrity in public service and reiterated its dedication to prosecuting individuals involved in corruption. This conviction serves as a warning to other public officials about the consequences of engaging in illegal activities and highlights the agency’s proactive measures in fighting corruption in Oyo State.
