A tragic accident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday, August 8, 2024, resulting in the deaths of three unidentified passengers. The multi-vehicle crash happened around 7 pm on the Kara section of the expressway, when a truck driver transporting sugar lost control and collided with another vehicle, triggering a chain of collisions.
The vehicles involved in the accident included an SF3000 truck, a Toyota Camry car with the number plate EPE 200 GK, an Isuzu mini truck with the number plate T-1079 LA, a Honda Accord car, and the truck transporting sugar, whose driver fled the scene.
Michael, a fuel attendant at a nearby filling station, witnessed the accident and reported seeing several injured passengers being rushed to the hospital.
Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident and stated that the victims had been taken to a hospital in Lagos for medical attention. Amodu Shakiru, spokesperson for the Lagos State Fire Service, also confirmed the incident and reported that their team was on-site to manage the situation.
The accident resulted in the deaths of three passengers, including two women and one man, who died at the scene. The injured passengers were transported to the emergency clinic at Old Toll Gate in Ojota for treatment.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for identification and autopsy. Authorities are currently searching for the truck driver who fled the scene. This is the second fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in two days, following a crash on Wednesday that killed one driver and injured three passengers.
