One person was shot dead today, Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Iwo Road, Ibadan. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailant emerged from a cab (popularly known as “micra” in Ibadan) and shot a man dead in front of a phone and phone accessories shop called Omoleye. After confirming the victim’s death, the assailant re-entered the cab and drove away.
The victim, identified as Kanu, was reportedly a leader of a local cult group. The shooting is believed to be a retaliatory act between rival cult factions, with many attributing the incident to the Axe Confraternity, which marks July 7th (7/7) as a significant day.
There are concerns that this incident could trigger further violence, as Kanu’s associates may seek revenge. The local community remains on high alert, anticipating potential retaliatory attacks.
The police have since removed the corpse from the scene, and a significant number of security operatives are present to maintain law and order and prevent further casualties.
More details will follow as the investigation continues.
