A violent confrontation between the Ondo State security outfit, Amotekun, and Fulani herdsmen in Akure, the state capital, has resulted in numerous injuries.

The clash occurred over the weekend in the Igoba area of the state as Amotekun operatives were enforcing the anti-open grazing law. Both the security personnel and the herdsmen sustained serious injuries during the altercation.

According to sources, the incident was triggered when Amotekun personnel arrested over 120 cows and their herders for grazing and causing extensive damage to tomato farms worth millions of naira. Farmers in the area had previously complained about the herders grazing on their farms and destroying crops.

The confrontation escalated when the herdsmen allegedly attacked the Amotekun operatives during the enforcement action. The situation quickly turned violent, leading to a bloody clash that left many wounded on both sides.

Local authorities are investigating the incident, and additional security measures are being considered to prevent future clashes. The enforcement of the anti-open grazing law remains a contentious issue in the region, with ongoing tensions between farmers and herders.
