The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee has dismissed Enyimba FC’s appeal regarding the forfeited points from their match against Rangers. This decision follows Enyimba’s refusal to continue the match after the centre referee awarded a penalty to the hosts in the closing stages of the game.
In addition to the dismissal of the appeal, the NFF has upheld the fine of two million naira imposed on Enyimba by the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). The decision was conveyed to the former NPFL champions in an official memo.
The incident in question occurred during a crucial league match when Enyimba, also known as the People’s Elephant, chose to abandon the game in protest of the penalty decision. This action led to the forfeiture of the match points and subsequent disciplinary measures by the NPFL.
The NFF’s decision to uphold the penalties reaffirms its commitment to maintaining discipline and fairness in Nigerian football. The memo emphasized that the rules and regulations governing the league must be respected by all participating teams, regardless of their status or achievements.
Enyimba’s management has expressed disappointment with the ruling, but the club is expected to comply with the sanctions imposed. The two million naira fine is intended to serve as a deterrent to other clubs, ensuring that the integrity of the game is preserved.
The ruling by the NFF Disciplinary Committee sends a clear message to all clubs in the NPFL about the importance of adhering to match regulations and respecting the decisions of match officials.
