France coach Didier Deschamps has stated that he has no regrets about benching star forward Kylian Mbappé in their recent match against the Netherlands during the ongoing Euro 2024 championship.

In a goalless draw against the Dutch on Friday, France missed the flair and firepower of Mbappé, who had recently signed with Real Madrid. The decision to bench him came after he suffered a nose injury in the opening game, a result of a collision with Austrian defender Kevin Dans.

Despite the injury, Mbappé is expected to finish the tournament in Germany wearing a special protective mask. Deschamps confirmed that the French forward will be available for their last group game.

The coach’s decision, while surprising to some, underscores his commitment to player safety and strategic management, ensuring Mbappé’s readiness for the crucial stages of the championship.
