The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has announced that President Bola Tinubu’s position on the newly proposed minimum wage of 62,000 naira, agreed upon by the Federal Government and the Organized Private Sector, will determine the union’s next steps.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero, informed journalists that the labor movement is awaiting the President’s response to the recommendation adopted during the Friday meeting of the Tripartite Committee on the new minimum wage in Abuja.
Labour’s initial reaction to the proposal was one of rejection. Trade Union Congress (TUC) President, Festus Osifo, emphasized that the minimum wage acceptable to workers is 250,000 naira. This significant discrepancy between the proposed and demanded figures highlights the ongoing tension and the potential for further negotiations or industrial actions, depending on the President’s response.
The NLC’s stance underscores the importance of the President’s decision in addressing the concerns of Nigerian workers and achieving a satisfactory resolution.
