The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has taken legal action against President Bola Tinubu’s administration, filing a lawsuit at the Lagos Federal High Court. The organization is demanding the publication of detailed spending reports and agreements related to loans acquired by the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari.

SERAP’s lawsuit seeks to compel the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and the Debt Management Office (DMO) to disclose comprehensive information on how these loans, which amount to billions of dollars, were utilized.

The organization argues that transparency in the management of public funds is crucial for democratic governance and accountability. According to SERAP, citizens have a fundamental right to know how public funds are spent, emphasizing that such knowledge is essential for holding the government accountable and ensuring that resources are used for the public good.

In its statement, SERAP underscored the importance of financial transparency in fostering trust between the government and the people. By demanding detailed reports and agreements, SERAP aims to shed light on the financial dealings of past administrations and ensure that future spending is conducted with greater accountability and openness.
