Legendary Scholar and Former VC, Professor Ayo Banjo, Passes On at 90

The University of Ibadan Alumni Association expresses deep sorrow over the passing of Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo.

 

In a press release issued today, Friday, May 31st, 2024, and signed by the General Secretary of the Association, Lateef-Folaranmi Wakeel, and the Branch Chairman, Tunde Olayiwola, the Association extended its deepest condolences to the Vice-Chancellor, the university leadership, and the entire University of Ibadan community on the passing of Professor Ayo Banjo, who died at the age of 90.

 

The statement reads:

 

“We are profoundly saddened by the news of the passing of Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo, a distinguished academic and former Vice-Chancellor of our great institution. Professor Banjo’s contributions to the field of English literature and his exceptional leadership during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor have left an indelible mark on the University of Ibadan and the academic community at large.

 

Professor Banjo’s career spanned decades of dedicated service to education and scholarship. His visionary leadership and tireless efforts to promote academic excellence have inspired countless students and colleagues. As a respected scholar, his work in English literature has been widely recognized and celebrated both nationally and internationally.

 

In this time of grief, the University of Ibadan Alumni Association extends its heartfelt condolences to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode Adebowale, the entire leadership team, faculty, staff, students, and the extended University of Ibadan family. We also offer our sympathies to Professor Banjo’s family, friends, and loved ones. His legacy will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the profound impact of his scholarly work.

 

We honor Professor Ayo Banjo’s memory and celebrate his life of exemplary service and dedication. May his soul rest in peace.”

 

The University of Ibadan Alumni Association recognizes this as a significant loss to the academic community and pledges to uphold the values and standards that Professor Banjo stood for throughout his illustrious career.
