The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has identified the persistent fuel scarcity in the nation as a consequence of both panic buying among consumers and the exploitative practices of certain petroleum marketers. These marketers, motivated by the current situation, are engaging in sharp practices to maximize profits, exacerbating the shortage.

Despite the challenges, NNPC asserts its readiness to address the issue decisively. It assures the public that the fuel queues snaking across the country will soon be a thing of the past, as the corporation possesses an ample supply of fuel to meet demand and end the scarcity.

In contrast, petroleum marketers maintain their disagreement with NNPC’s assessment, citing inadequate supply as a primary driver of the ongoing fuel shortage. They argue that without sufficient supply from the NNPC, it is challenging for them to meet the demands of consumers.

Earlier statements from NNPC spokesperson Femi Soneye have reiterated the corporation’s commitment to resolving the shortage. Soneye assured the public that measures are being taken to normalize the supply of petroleum products and alleviate the queues, with a target set for resolution by May 1st.
