In a strategic move to foster educational excellence and technological proficiency, the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, has unveiled an ambitious program set to train 1,000 senior secondary school students in coding and non-code technology skills. This initiative, in alignment with the state’s Omituntun 2.0 Agenda, aims to equip youth with the necessary tools to thrive in the digital era and position Oyo as a center for innovation.

During a press briefing at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, Revd. Idowu Ogedengbe, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Administration, revealed details of the program, highlighting its collaboration with private investors in the technology sector. Scheduled to commence from July 15th to July 19th at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, the training will initially target schools in the 11 local governments of Ibadan before extending to all 33 Local Government Areas in the state.

Ogedengbe emphasized the program’s role in preparing students for future opportunities and driving socio-economic development. By partnering with organizations such as CodeGarage Africa, Zeeh Africa, and 386Konsult, the initiative aims to bridge the digital gap and empower youth to become leaders in technology-driven fields.

Governor Makinde’s vision for education underscores the importance of investing in youth and fostering innovation. Ogedengbe called upon stakeholders, including parents, educators, and the private sector, to rally behind the program and support its objectives.

In their remarks, partnering private investors, CodeGarage Africa, and Zeeh Africa, commended the initiative for its forward-thinking approach and emphasized the significance of early exposure to technology and entrepreneurship. They urged further collaboration to maximize the program’s impact and unlock the full potential of Oyo’s youth.

The launch of this tech training initiative signals a proactive step towards enhancing educational opportunities and nurturing a skilled workforce in Oyo State.
