The Oyo State Government has taken decisive action against Fountain Manufacturing Company Ltd, an industrial facility located in Oluyole, Ibadan, due to its persistent non-compliance with environmental regulations. This move was prompted by numerous complaints and petitions from residents living near the facility, who have been exposed to significant health hazards.

According to Abdulmojeed Mogbojubola, the state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, the ministry had attempted to mediate between the facility’s management and residents for several years. However, the facility’s owner failed to respond to or comply with government directives and state environmental laws, leaving the government with no choice but to seal the facility.
In a similar vein, the commissioner also announced the sealing of Casta De Lounge, a popular lounge located on Akala Expressway, for indiscriminately dumping waste on the highway median. This action underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing environmental laws and protecting the well-being of its citizens.
The Oyo State Government’s actions are reminiscent of its previous efforts to address environmental concerns, such as the sealing of Shri-Balaji Industry Limited, a facility engaged in the recycling of waste tyres, due to its non-compliance with environmental regulations.¹ These measures demonstrate the government’s dedication to ensuring that companies and individuals operate in accordance with environmental laws and regulations.
