In a bold move to restore sanity and cleanliness to its environment, the Oyo State Government has declared a state of emergency on indiscriminate dumping of refuse, street trading, and environmental pollution. This decisive action aims to tackle the menace of filth and disorderliness that has plagued the state for years.

The government has vowed to take drastic measures to ensure that street traders vacate the roads and highways, as their activities impede the free flow of traffic and compromise the safety of citizens.¹ To achieve this, the state has put in place a task force that will enforce the ban on street trading and indiscriminate waste disposal.
The government has also called on traders and residents to cooperate with its efforts to restore cleanliness and orderliness to the state. Market leaders, including the Babaloja General of Oyo State, Chief Yekin Abass, have pledged their support for the government’s initiatives, urging traders to adhere strictly to environmental laws.
With this declaration of a state of emergency, Oyo State is poised to become a cleaner, healthier, and more organized place, where citizens can live and thrive in a conducive environment.
