The Oyo State House of Assembly has strongly condemned the subpar customer service and inefficient power distribution provided by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to the citizens of Oyo State and Nigeria. This condemnation was part of a resolution passed during a plenary session presided over by Deputy Speaker Hon. Mohammed Fadeyi.¹

The motion, sponsored by Hon. Bamidele Adeola, representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju State Constituency, and seconded by Hon. Tunde Kehinde, representing Akinyele II State Constituency, highlighted the deplorable state of power supply and the unfair billing metering system. Lawmakers lamented that many citizens who are eligible for prepaid meters have yet to receive them.
In response to these concerns, the House unanimously agreed to engage with IBEDC officials through the Committee on Energy. The committee is tasked with investigating the issues and reporting back to the House within two weeks.
IBEDC, which is responsible for distributing electricity to several states, including Ogun, Oyo, Osun, and Kwara, has faced criticism for its services in the past. The company has, however, made efforts to improve its services, including partnering with other organizations to enhance its operations.²
