The recent expulsion of Rauf Aregbesola, former Governor of Osun State, and his Omoluabi group from the All Progressives Congress (APC) has significantly altered the political landscape in Osun, particularly as the 2026 governorship election approaches.

Abosede Oluwaseun, Publicity and Organising Secretary of Omoluabi Progressive, has revealed that the group will not be joining another political party. Instead, they plan to establish a new political party. Oluwaseun disclosed this information during an appearance on Premier Politics, a flagship radio program in Ibadan.
In response to Aregbesola’s expulsion, Kola Olabisi, Osun state APC spokesperson, stated that the decision was long overdue. According to Olabisi, Aregbesola and his Omoluabi Progressives have been operating in opposition to the party since 2019.
The expulsion of Aregbesola and his group is expected to have a profound impact on Osun politics, potentially reshaping alliances and influencing the outcome of the 2026 governorship election. As the situation continues to unfold, it is likely that new political dynamics will emerge, further complicating the state’s already complex political landscape.
