The Oyo State Government, on Friday, disbursed a substantial sum of ₦12 billion to state government workers, fulfilling a major financial commitment aimed at improving workers’ welfare.

In a statement released on January 25, 2025, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, disclosed that the payment reflects Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment to implementing the ₦80,000 minimum wage for workers in the state, which took effect from January 1, 2025.
Providing further details, Oyelade noted that the new wage structure results in significant salary increments across various levels. Workers on Grade Levels 1 to 6 will now benefit from a minimum salary increase of ₦50,000, while those on Grade Level 17 have seen their earnings rise by more than ₦180,000.
The commissioner emphasized that pensioners have also been prioritized in the administration’s welfare plans. Over 40,000 retirees in the state are set to benefit from the approval of a minimum pension of ₦25,000, alongside a 33% increment in their pension payments. Oyelade affirmed that these adjustments have been implemented with immediate effect, underscoring the government’s dedication to ensuring that both active workers and pensioners enjoy improved financial security.
This bold step by Governor Makinde aligns with his administration’s pledge to enhance the living standards of the state’s workforce and retirees, fostering greater economic stability and productivity in Oyo State.
