Just in: Governor Seyi Makinde Mourns Brother’s Passing

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has lost his elder brother, Engineer Sunday Makinde, who passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025. He was 65 years old. This was confirmed in a press release issued by Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor.

 

Announcing the sad news, Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde, the Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland and Head of the Aigbofa Family of Oja’ba, Ibadan, described the passing of his elder brother as sudden and heartbreaking. “With a heavy heart, I announce the passage of my older brother, Engr. Sunday Makinde, to eternal glory today, Friday 24th of January 2025,” he said. Chief Makinde revealed that the deceased passed away at 3:20 a.m. in his Ibadan residence.

 

Engineer Sunday Makinde is survived by his siblings, including Governor Seyi Makinde, as well as children and grandchildren. The family has expressed their grief at the unexpected loss and will announce funeral arrangements in due course.
