A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has sentenced a 67-year-old Lebanese national, Zuhier R Akar, to 14 years in prison for sexually exploiting two underage girls. The judgment was delivered by Justice S. M. Shu’aibu, who ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Kano Command, had arraigned Akar on two counts of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. The agency’s efforts led to the successful prosecution and conviction of the defendant.

This landmark conviction demonstrates the Nigerian judiciary’s commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals, particularly children. It also underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies, judicial bodies, and the community in preventing and addressing human trafficking.

The case emphasizes the need for increased vigilance and proactive measures to prevent such crimes. NAPTIP’s tireless work in investigating and prosecuting human trafficking cases serves as a deterrent to potential offenders and ensures justice for victims.

With this conviction, the Federal High Court sends a strong message that human trafficking and sexual exploitation will not be tolerated in Nigeria, and perpetrators will face the full weight of the law.
